My life has zigzagged across many bridges. Some seemed impossible to traverse, and somehow I made it to the other side. The one thing that connects them all is my itch to be creative…through art, writing, content development, and DIY home projects which challenge me to learn new skills and stretch my capabilities.
My site highlights the collage art which I’ve been creating for almost fifteen years. As a teen, I used to buy old National Geographic and New Yorker magazines from my library for five cents each. I’d take home my pile of treasures and rip out their full-page pictures, which I then collected in a folder. Why I did this is still a mystery to me. Maybe I simply needed to remind myself that there was a vast, complex world beyond the small town where I was raised.
During a move in my twenties, I uncovered that very thick folder nestled in a box. Curious of their purpose for me at that time in my life, I decided they could help me express the anxiety and depression which I felt throughout my hopes, dreams, and fears. I began experimenting with cutting apart images and rearranging them in unconventional ways to tell a new story.
Once I started, I couldn’t stop. Intrigued by all the smaller elements which make up the whole of what we typically see and appreciate in a photo, landscape, or everyday life, I continually challenge myself to deconstruct pictures and piece them back together in ways which emphasize and reflect on their movements, textures, colors, and expressions. Something that sparked a creative outlet to release my emotions has since grown into a path of meditation and discovery which I continue to explore.
